Event Reports From 2006 Round 3
SVRA at Barber - Birmingham, AL
Michael Crumay's Event Report
What a track. Not so long but great elevation changes and tricky turns.
It is smooth and the amenities are super. Only thing missing is electricity in the pit areas and it is now being installed. The tower
structure is first rate and landscaping is incredible with sculptures and first rate viewing areas.
We were threatened with severe weather (tornados hit north of Birmingham) and Friday night stormed with high winds. Many lost canopies. Barber had
grounds crew out at 4:00 am Saturday picking up the storm carnage. He also towed several Lotus cars to the museum garage to protect them from
the storm. Barber collects Loti.
The S2 group was Arundel/Arundel, Rossi, Rubin. Gompels and Crumay. Rossi had fastest times most of the
weekend. Arundels chased clutch actuation problems and finally got it solved by Sunday. Noah was a front runner in the enduro until he went off track and was unable to rejoin due to the clutch.
Gompels and Rubin continued to improve. I had to drop out of the feature (not that I was a threat) because a known "to get loose" nut got loose. I will check it every session in the future.
Noah and Dave Arundel received the "Spirit of Sports 2000" award for their
perseverance and love of travel.
YOU GOT TO GO TO BARBER AT LEAST ONCE. You have to see it to believe.
