Well, that was a nice weekend. The most entertaining battle on track was
either the Malcolm, Larry and Jeff; David Hughes/Tom Kane or Michael Crumay/Tom Ash dices! Times were off all weekend from last year's spring
and fall events by some significant amount (even for Sugg, the eventual winner), but it was a good day and it was a good, clean race. Malcolm
Mangum has really got his Royale working as he was up front on the sheets several times throughout the weekend. Jeff Wright and Larry Rossi had an
entertaining and hugely competitive run together. The Vermont maple syrup
was a delicacy appreciated by all!
The Enduro Sunday morning saw Richard Barnes on the pole, matching Randall
Yow's (the former owner) fastest laps during his tenure in Richard's first
outing in the car. Outside was Claude Rowell, who has made a good breakthrough in his skill and confidence. I started Tom Ash's car back in
tenth, right behind Max Rubin's Lola. After a terrific weekend which saw Max drop eight seconds in lap time after intensive coaching and good
practice, he suffered from an electrical failure on the pace lap traceable
to Lucas electrics! :-)
At the start, Richard took a good lead with Claude falling back into the clutches of Richard Eastep's big-block
Corvette, while I "threaded the needle" and ended up third at the end of the first lap. After a lap or two to pass the 'Vette, it took me a little
work to catch Richard, but we had a great time together until I was able to capitalize in traffic and stretch out a comfortable gap.
After pitting, Dave Blum took over for Claude and Tom got into the car for
the last half. Due to a computer crash, timing and scoring had to revert to a manually compiled lap chart and results will be posted shortly, but
Richard got into the :08's and pipped me for fast lap! Way to go Richard!
Blum and Claude were third or fourth overall!
Congrats to David Sugg and David Hughes for their class wins! Congrats to the unveiling of Scott's Shrike and welcome to series newcomers Tom Kane and
Richard Barnes. It was nice to see Max Rubin do well, also.

A very good weekend! Times were wierd...way off from what would be expected, but the racing was good, with no contact. The VIR VDCA event is
probably the best event on the vintage calendar. The track time can't be
beat.
It's really nice to see the new faces coming into the SRCC. Tom Kane, Dick Barnes, and Max Rubin are great
additions to the organization.
Special thanks to Mike Crumay and Larry Rossi for hosting the Friday night
social.
The Shrike shows some true potential. We have some brake cooling issues to work out, but we got some really good baseline data to work on dialing
the car in.
Sugg was on another planet all weekend. He has his Swift totally dialed in and has set the mark for the rest of us.
Great Event, Great People, Great Racing
SEE EVERYONE AT THE JEFFERSON 500, LET'S SEE 30 CARS!!!
