Meeting Minutes

October 1, 2005 Board Meeting - VIR

On October 1, 2005, the Board of Directors of the North America Chapter-Sports 2000 Racing Car Club met to discuss board business. The following is a summary of the meeting.

In attendance: Ash, Crumay, Gaither, Krause, Robison, Tavilla, Yow, Rossi (technical committee representative).

The minutes from Summit Point meeting were read and approved.

Board Membership and Elections
  • The entire board agreed that in the future the board will be elected rather than based upon race participation.
  • Further, the size of the board will be reduced from 7 to 5 members.
  • Terms will be 2 years with 3 members elected the first year and 2 members the next.
  • Each new board will elect officers.
  • Tavilla, Yow and Gaither will resign from board effective 12/31/05.
  • Crumay and Robison will remain on board for one-year terms. Ash will not run for another term.
  • The board nominates Scott Krueger, Burt Young and Jeff Johnson for 2-year terms effective 1/1/06.
  • Ballots will be sent to members within the next 30 days and will have provision for write-in candidates.
Membership Dues
  • For 2006, dues will be reduced from $75.00 to $50.00.
  • Those renewing will receive a NAC SRCC shirt. Larry Rossi will have shirts made. The ballot for the new board will have request for member’s shirt size.
30-Year Sports 2000 Meeting

The club sanctioned Paul Tavilla to proceed in organizing a 30-year Sports 2000 anniversary meeting. Probably in the Midwest, hopefully 100 + cars.

Car Classification and Championship Points
  • There was discussion on continuing our two championships: S2 and HS2. It was determined there was overwhelming support to continue. We will request membership input on ballot.
  • Ties between competitors will be decided by most 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, etc.
2006 Schedule
  • The 2006 schedule was discussed. Many of the sanctioning groups have yet to finalize their schedules. We should have a schedule in November. There will probably be 2 or 3 regional championships with each competitor able to count the best 4 races. A runoff {probably VIR) will determine the overall champions.
  • Responsibilities of the race chair were examined. They are already well documented in our regulations.
Technical and Car Preparation
  • The technical committee (Krause, Rossi, Chenoweth) will be active with compliance checking in 2006 and will encourage safety inspections and bulletins. Minimum weight, cam lift, flywheel material etc. may be checked at select events by the technical committee.
  • The board recommends rescinding the ban on data acquisition systems and alternate bodywork materials:
    • Data systems provide no technical advantage but do provide a driver-coaching tool. In addition newer systems are cost effective.
    • The S2000 minimum weight restriction equates any advantages provided by lighter materials.
  • Rescinding the ban on Data acquisition systems and alternate body materials will be sent to membership for vote with the  ballot.
Driving Incidents

A “Black Book” containing driving incidents will be moved from the board-only site to the club web site.

Technical Inspections
The board revisited the issue of performing tech inspection at events. The board decided in May to no longer provide technical inspection at events due to legal issues. The board again decided it was not prudent to have a SRCC member perform technical inspections in our litigious society. It was noted that SVRA and HSR do provide an annual tech and that members should consider taking advantage of these inspections.
General
  • Robison (Treasurer) reported that the club is solvent. The Treasurers report will appear in the next newsletter.
  • The board thanked Tom Ash for his special efforts maintaining the club's web site and providing an online forum for the board's use.
  • The board thanked Peter Krause for his service to the club. Although he is leaving the board, he will continue as the “voice of the SRCC” through the newsletter and the web site as well as serving on the technical committee.
