About the NAC-SRCCThe SRCC was founded in the UK in 1997 to further the cause of Sports 2000 racing by raising its profile and enjoyment for competitors and spectators alike. The North America Chapter of the SRCC (the NAC-SRCC) shares these same goals. A multi-round race series is scheduled in North America for 2008. Membership in the NAC-SRCC is open to anyone with an involvement or interest in the cars and the formula, whether you are a driver, sponsor, admirer or just a racing enthusiast. article by Colin Feyerabend that describes the
genesis of the SRCC in the UK. What is the NAC-SRCC?Who: A group of vintage racing enthusiasts and
competitors dedicated to encouraging
preservation, restoration and use of older sports racing cars designed to the twenty-five year old
English and American specification known as "Sports 2000." Governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, the NAC-SRCC is experienced in the tenets of vintage and historic racing. What: Formed in 2000 by Vaughn Rockney, the NAC-SRCC held a three-round championship in 2001, a five-round championship in 2002, a ten-round championship in 2003 and an eleven-round championship in 2004. From the outset, Vaughn worked closely with Jack Woehrle of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) and with the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada (VARAC) to legitimize and encourage the acceptance of the early S2000 cars at vintage events. The SVRA's embrace of Sports 2000 cars has lead other sanctioning bodies to accept the NAC-SRCC cars. The 2004 races consisted of three HSR, four SVRA, two CFCR, one VARAC and VDCA event. Similar to Monoposto Racing, NAC SRCC holds its own technical inspection at selected events and a social for members and interested competitors. In the case of car-to-car contact, the NAC-SRCC members in attendance meet and agree if fault can be determined, to dismiss those found at fault in the incident from participating during the rest of the weekend. Violators may be reported to the VMC.
When: Twelve races are included in the 2005 schedule. The 2004
BeaveRun CFCR "double-points" round saw seventeen entries and the VIR Season Finale saw
thirty-one entries! Most rounds saw an average of seven cars attending. Where: The scheduling premise is to hold the championship over a wide geographical area to benefit the most number of members. Most tracks will be visited once a year to encourage maximum turnout for that particular round and for the benefit of the host organization. The championship currently includes rounds held at Sebring, Savannah, Road America, Watkins Glen, Mosport, Barber Motorsports Park, BeaveRun, CMP, Summit Point and VIR. The schedule and race results are published on the comprehensive NAC-SRCC web site at www.nac-srcc.com. Why: Sports 2000 was formed as the "bridge" between FIA Group 6 sports cars and FIA Group C racing. Lola Racing Cars, Ltd. built the first Sports 2000 car in 1977 based on their successful T-290 sports car. Support races for the British Grand Prix and a strong RAC-sanctioned National Championship in England saw exciting, close racing and the proliferation of cars built by recognized manufacturers such as Royale, Tiga, Lola, Chevron, March and the American Swift marque. These manufacturers collectively sold hundreds of cars throughout England, the Netherlands and America throughout the late 1970's and early 1980's.
The rules package, which allows almost no modifications to the engine, a
2-liter SOHC Ford, has
been stable for twenty-five years. This insures parity and economy.
Interest in unearthing,
restoring Sanctioning bodies look to the NAC-SRCC to determine eligibility and supply a group of like-prepared, legal and compatible cars tempered with the "vintage spirit" for inclusion into their events. Drivers and car owners look to the NAC-SRCC for answers to car eligibility and driver qualification questions. In short, the NAC-SRCC has established itself as the focal point for vintage and historic Sports 2000 racing in North America today. [Top] |
